This small green leather album was carried by a Union or Confederate officer and contains 20 Tintype photos of his family. The Tintype was thin steel dipped in light sensitive chemicals called collodion and fixed to preserve the image. Being a positive image, these tintypes were inside the camera. During the Civil War, families and troops exchanged these photos by mail.
