C1  1850 Ball & Chain

This device from 1850 was intended to incapacitate slaves and prisoners. The iron ball weighs 25 pounds, is 30 inches in diameter (the size of a bowling ball). The  18 inch chain is welded to an iron ankle cuff with retractable key. The ball slows the movement of slaves to allow them to work in fields and along roads.
